The vineyards

Spring is here and the vine "bends"

Back to news

It’s spring, the vines are awakening and weeping!

At our En Bollery vineyard in Côte de Nuits, the time has come to bend the canes. This is a vital step to ensure control of budding (when the shoots appear) and for vine development in general. This work enables the future shoots to grow straight.

The canes are bent and held in place on a wire. This is done by hand using twine, with an electric tying machine, or with a small mechanical tool commonly known as a ‘pig’s tail’!

As a general rule, all of the canes are bent in the same direction. However, if they are thicker or already have a natural orientation, our winegrowers respect this to preserve them and prevent any breaking.
